Inline editing and insert and delete plugins don't work anymore in jctables 1.21 was created by Hessel Tacoma
Up to this week I was using jctables 1.10.31 on my site. With this version of jctables, inline editing and the insert and delete plugins worked smoothly.
But after the upgrade to jctables 1.21.1, inline editing and inserting or deleting rows give error messages. If I look in the trace file, then I can see that the tableName is not filled in the SQL statements.

Is there a change in the way that the tables must be mentioned in the jctables set-up?

The code in the Column Formatter for the column `naam` is:

Hi Hessel,

Apologies for this, We'll have a look.

This update was quite a major update, so it is possible this slipped through the cracks, as not many use the inline edit.

If it is mission critical for you, please install 1.10.31 to keep you going and we'll let you know when we have resolved the issue shortly.

Thank you for your response. With some difficulty I found the release notes for JCTables 1.21.1, and according to these release notes the inline editing option in the update cell formatter was removed by purpose:

Version 1.21.1 (August 2026)
  • Credit goes to Valentin Lobstein (Chocapikk) for picking up the following vulnerabilities....All assigned to CVE-2026-76570

  • Security fix: closed two further unauthenticated data-access issues in the front-end data API, in the same area as the 1.21.0 security fixes.
  • Security fix: closed several vulnerabilities in the front-end data API that could allow unauthorized access to data or unauthorized database changes. All users are strongly encouraged to update immediately.
  • Security fix: front-end actions that change data (inline cell edit, delete row, bulk update, insert record, update record, save form) now require a valid security token.
  • Change: removed the column formatter's 
    updateTable
     option for inline cell editing. If a column used this to edit a table backed by a database view, use a plugin button (e.g. a delete or update button with its own table option) for that column instead.
In these release notes I see also that for the third security fix a valid security token is needed for front-end actions that change date. But it is not clear to me how I should obtain and apply such a security token. Do you have an example how to apply this for the delete row plugin?

Hi Hessel,

I think there might be something else at play that e are not aware of.

I can confirm there is an issue with the inline edit, but the insert and delete plugins work fine on our side, so if you are experiencing issues with these it might be related to something else.

Please give us a short while to setup a joomla environment the same as yours, ie: Joomla 5.4 and PHP 8.5. To be honest, we have not tested our components on PHP 8.5 or 6.0 yet.
We'll do this and get back to you.

Hi Hessel,

JCTables V1.21.2 has been uploaded into the download section.

This solves the inline edit issue. Just a note, if you want to update values in another table with inline edit configured using "editor" in the json, you now need to add a table inline edit plugin, and the fields need to match those setup in the tabulator config.

It also includes a number of other fixes and enhancements that were due for release.

JCTables has just been released with V1.22.0 with many new features available in both front and backend.....

WHats New in V1.22.0
